Hastings High wrestlers ran away with the gold at the John Higgins invite in Lexington for the first time since 1989 on Saturday, January 20. The boys tallied up a total of 187 points for the tournament, leaving the second place school, Sidney, 19.5 points behind Hastings.
Wrestlers Bryce Brown, Blayne Kile, Connor Laux, and Damen Pape all placed first at the tournament. Other teammates, Dylan Miller (2nd), Izzak Hunsley (3rd), Mason Brumbaugh (4th), Evan Morara (5th), Joel Smith (6th), and Josh Callejas (6th), attributed to the wrestlers’ triumph at the tournament.
Sophomore Damen Pape was awarded outstanding wrestler at the tournament.
“I was surprised when I got it but it felt good to receive it.,” Pape said.
