What an honor it is to be selected as the “Tiger Cub’s” 2012 Mrs. Ho Ho. I haven’t been at Hastings High all too long, but I do know how prestigious it is to win such an important award. Now, I realize this job doesn’t come without responsibility. As soon as I found out I was selected for this years candidate, Mr. Ho Ho put me straight to work.
First he made me iron his suits and shine his boots. I hung the stockings with care, decorated our tree bigger than Times Square, and prepared supper for the whole North Pole family. I made cookies for our little elves and began working to dust the shelves. Christmas music danced in the air, bringing Christmas spirit to all who care. Many toys still needed to be wrapped; I hoped I could finish it all before I collapsed! After sweating and slaving and breaking my back, it occurred to me that this is actually Christmas spirit, in fact! This fun short rhyme has reminded me of the importance of Christmas time.
Mrs. Ho Ho and all who care about Christmas shouldn’t be concerned with what it brings for them but rather what they can give to others. Many people around this time of year get caught up in the shopping, the presents, and the stress of fitting everyone into their calendar. This year I’d like you all to consider what other things Christmas time provides for us. Take a minute to cherish the time you get to spend with your family, the laughter you will share, the excellent food you’ll eat too much of, and the love and happiness you can give to someone else.
Remember this season, in the words of Dr. Seuss, “Maybe Christmas, doesn’t come from a store… maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more…”
As a Tiger alum and one who watched you grow up, I congratulate you on this honor! I just stumbled upon the photo. I am sure all of Lexington is as proud as I am. Congrats!
