It’s fun knowing what songs Hastings High listened to this past 2014 summer. Most students listened to pop. Teachers tended to listen to country and a few “oldies”. “Wait, does it have to be a song that just came out?” Ortegren asked.
Taylor Swift looked like she did a pretty good job with her songs, a few girls mentioned her a couple of times, along with the song “Shake it Off” “It got kinda annoying” Said Savannah Davis, Sophmore. Shake it off was actually number 13 out of 100 songs in 2014.
Of course the number one song in 2014 wanted to keep up all happy, “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. “I heard that song everywhere even on commercials”. Said Carlos Guerrero , Junior. “Finding a way to follow a trend and be unique at the same time seems like an impossible task, but that is exactly what Williams was facing with “Happy”. A lot of people thought “Happy” was the top song for 2014 because of the blend of R&B, Funk and Soul William added to it.
A couple of bands that people seemed to be “into” is The Weeknd and EDM. “I like these bands because there music is soft and they get me hyped up”. Said Julio Rodriguez, Junior. A few other songs they mentioned was “Rude” by Magic and “Tuesday” by Drake. “Drake will never get old just the older he gets the more depressed he gets” Said Jasmine Harris, Senior.
In my opinion, I think songs that I like will never get old. But there is a difference between liking a song that you will never get tired of and liking a song just because its a big trend at the moment.
