This year’s Valentine’s special: Love and Chocolate by Hastings High set a high standard for the following performances in 2016. In order to perform students have to be in chamber choir and at least a sophomore. Sophomore Miranda Niemeyer performed for the first time this year.
Niemeyer found a couple ways to cope with her nervousness.
”I just practiced by myself for a little bit, then I got a couple drinks of water,” Niemeyer said. Also first time performer Lauren Canady has her own tactics for dealing with the butterflies.
“Before I go on I plug my ears so I don’t hear the people before me. Then I just hmm the song in my head,” Canady said.
One of Niemeyer’s performances was with sophomore Ana Johnson.
“I was really nervous beforehand and it all went away because it really helped that Ana was there singing along with me,” Niemeyer said.
Lauren Canady and her partner Justice Propp have been practicing for Love and Chocolate for two months. Their inspiration came from a video online.
“There is a Youtube video where a dad and his daughter play this song on a ukulele. Justice and I would listen to it in the car during the summer, and joke about singing it at Love and Chocolate and then we actually decided to make it our performance,” Canady said.
One of Canady’s favorite moments is when her little sister came on stage to finish out the song.
“It was so cute and I was very proud of her for singing. It is lot to ask for, from a five year old,” Canady said.
The fan favorite performance was Annie Grealish and Macie Clawson with the mash-ups. Junior Iris Apodaca loved the performance.
“My favorite performance was Annie and Macie near the end. It was so cool how they used props to engage the audience,” said Apodaca. Â
Another fan favorite was Jolene by Savannah Santos and her mom. Junior Marilyn Galvan was excited about the performance.
“I liked Jolene by Savannah and her mom, because their voices were amazing and they just filled the whole auditorium,” said Galvan.
This year’s Love and Chocolate is one to be put in the books and like always the treats were just as lovely as the performance.
