In T3 of freshman year, our mentors always told us that getting involved would make our years of high school go by faster.
In some cases this is true, but for others, becoming too involved can become stressful. Junior Justise Propp finds a way to handle the stress.
Starting her day off at 6:30 a.m., Propp heads to the school for Tigerette practice, where practice lasts up until the start of classes. After practice, she then starts her school day full of honors classes. Along with every other student, Propp feels the stress from her activities.
“I am definitely a person who will find stress from anything I do because I am a perfectionist,” Propp said.
After school, Propp finishes her homework and studying at Blue Moon before heading home. Justise usually gets homework in every class, but most of it comes from Pre-Calculus and American History. She eats dinner, then gets ready for bed.
During the summer, Propp works for C&H Detasseling and for Summertime Snowflakes, a local snow cone truck. Along with her job, she also helps at Vacation Bible School.
“The activities take up most of the time in my life, but I make sure to make enough time for my school work and family,” Propp said.
Propp spends most of her time with her family. She has a brother and a sister, who both live near Norfolk, that they visit quite often.
“I think sometimes family and friends can add a little stress,” Propp said, “But I always try to look past that because they are also what take the stress away from my life.”
At the high school, Propp is involved in Tigerettes, Marching Band, Chamber and Madrigals Choir and National Honors Society. She takes every honors class that she can. During the month of December, she will also be participating in the Hastings College Messiah concert.
“I think there are plenty other students who are involved in a lot more than I am. However, I think I carry more stress than the average person,” Propp said.
Many students feel stressed while being involved in activities and feel too overwhelmed. While some students try to be involved as much as possible, others are skeptical about joining things.
“You never know what you will think about the activity until you are involved in it,” Propp said, “High school goes by way too fast and the last thing you want is to be regretful once you are graduated.”
Justise strongly encourages student involvement in the high school and would recommend being involved in as much as possible.
