January 1 marks the start of a new year, 2023! The beginning of a new year is a time for celebration and renewal. It’s a time to reflect on the past and set goals for the future.
Many people make resolutions or promises to themselves, to improve their lives in some way.
“I have three main goals of mine for 2023. The first one starts with finding a college that I will want to study at. Second, try to read 20 books throughout winter and spring. Lastly, to medal at the NSAA Girls’ State Tennis Championships,” junior Lexi Benson said.
It is usually a tradition to do activities to celebrate New Year’s, such as spending time with families and friends.
“For New Year’s I spent time with my family by watching many movies,” senior Kevin Vuong said.
Even though starting a new year is known to be great, there is usually something that people miss from the last year.
“I miss the vacation and sports trips that I took in 2022 and the time I spent with my family,” senior Logan Brooks said.
Other than planning new goals, many people look forward to doing their planned activities, which can be vacations or sports competitions.
“Something that I am looking forward to in 2023 is the start of spring sports! As for myself, I can’t wait to get out on the court and start playing tennis, but not only that, I also can’t wait to go to baseball games and track meets,” Benson said.
As school starts off in the new year after Christmas break, the students of HHS strive to make improvements in their lives, whether it be through setting new goals or learning new skills.
“Something that I want to improve this year is to stay on top of my assignments and tasks better,” Brooks said.
Even though a new year is about creating new goals and improvements, there can be goals from previous years that can be used to shape and improve the next one.
“Something that I hope to bring from 2022 is my willingness to be organized and be able to manage all the activities I do,” Benson said.
