While the freshman, sophomores, and seniors were snoozing in last Tuesday, March 15, the juniors were at the school taking the ACT. At Hastings High, all juniors are required to take the ACT exam. Many will also take the SAT test at some point.
Junior Diel Dumas has accepted the fact and understands the significance of the ACT.
”I was nervous because it basically dictates the rest of your life. Scoring high on the test results in better scholarships and more money,” Dumas said.
Dumas and his parents reached an agreement that if he achieves a certain score, he can go to Germany.
“This goal gave me more motivation to do well on the test and it helped push me,” Dumas said.
Since the ACT is big event in a high school students life, it is a good idea they study. That is exactly what junior Nathan Zimmerman did.
“I used the Naviance program about a month before I took the test and I think it helped a lot,” Zimmerman said.
Junior Zuriel Espinoza is also familiar with the Naviance program.
“ I used the Naviance prep course provided for us through the school and it helped me prepare for the test,” Espinoza said.
Some students have more confidence in a subject because have that instinct to understand the material. Junior Zane bender expresses his confidence.
“Math is my strongest subject because I have a natural feel for it and I am not very good at grammar,” Bender said.
Overall the juniors of HHS jumped on the practice opportunities for the ACT. Majority of the student body felt positive and are excited to get his or her results back.
