Injuries. Every athlete loses sleep over them. They can keep an athlete out of practice, to miss out on games, and worst of all, miss the whole season.
There are a number of injuries athletes can retain. From knee problems, to concussions, to broken bones, anything can go wrong during any sport.
Sophomore Brenton Keese has been out all football season due to a knee injury. He doesn’t know exactly what the status is, and is depending on a knee scope to figure out what it is that is bothering him.
“I’ll be back for basketball season, but unfortunately I have to miss the rest of football,” Keese says.
One of the biggest problems for athletes after an injury is getting back into things. After a period of time, the athlete must begin rehabilitation, usually by jogging and running, depending on the injury.
Another area of concern for the athlete is how good of shape one is in.
“I’ve been jogging and doing short sprints, but I will have to start all over with my workouts after my surgery,“ Keese says.
Stretching is a positive when it comes to keeping healthy and flexible. Weight training also helps strengthen ones joints and muscles. Amazingly, lifting weights can also help with an athlete’s balance and stability, as well as their flexibility.
To recover from an injury, one should take many precautions. The athlete must take as much time needed until the injury is fully repaired. Rushing can end up making things worse for the athlete.
