Books and Bagels will be kicking off with Andy Weir’s book “The Martian”. This 2011 novel opens with Mark Watney being the first American to walk on the planet and now he’s sure he may be the first to die on it. When astronauts blast off from planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney who is presumed dead after a raging storm hits. When the stranded survivor wakes he realizes what has happened and must use what little supplies were left behind to keep himself alive until NASA launches a daring rescue mission to bring him home safely.
“It’s a great read, I read it this summer, it’s easy reading, not too many pages. Students from all grades would easily get through it,” librarian Faye Friesen said.
The club meets Friday mornings at 7:30 in the library.
“We have books, we have bagels, we have coffee and hot chocolate sometimes we have doughnuts depending on my mood,” laughs Friesen.
Unfortunately students in marching band right now won’t be able to participate in this Books and Bagels, but not to worry there will be another chance to join. Currently there are 22 people signed up, including students and teachers. The great thing about Books and Bagels is students don’t have to worry, it’s not graded no one is judging the number of pages being read for there is no set amount.
