The beloved Books & Bagels is starting back up this Friday, November 20 in the Library. The book chosen to be read is, drum roll… Reality Boy by the Printz Honor author A.S. King.
In this fearless portrayal of a boy on the edge, King explores the desperate reality of a former child television ‘star’ struggling to break free of the oppressive anger he’s felt since he was five years old. Twelve years later, he’s still haunted by his rage filled youth- which the entire world got to watch from every imaginable angle. His anger issues have resulted in violent outbursts. The world’s patiently waiting for him to snap; and he’s starting to feel dangerously close to doing just that. Until he chooses to create possibilities for himself that he never knew he deserved.
“It’s a coming of age story about a boy trying to become the person he really is rather than the person portrayed on the television,” librarian Faye Friesen said.
“I chose the book because sometimes it’s hard to get a book with a male protagonist so I wanted to pick a male protagonist to try and get more boys to join (books & bagels), and I got quite a few,” Friesen added.
There are currently 22 book lovers signed up to read this coming of age story.
