If you have not already heard, some of the varsity basketball players have started a Tik Tok page called @hhsbenchmob5. For those unaware of what Tik Tok is, it is a newer social media platform that centers around sharing short and comical videos. In interviews with some of the members of the account including Junior Justin Musgrave, Senior Jack Coil and Junior Landon Jacobus, the Tiger Cub was able to find out some more information about the group.
“Me and Landon Jacobus had the idea at first. We got it from the Auburn Basketball team who also has a bench account,” Coil said.
They currently have a total of four Tik Toks with varying levels of success.
“It really depends on the quality of the Tik Tok. On our good ones, we are averaging about 150,000 views and our not so good ones are getting maybe 1000 views,” Jacobus said.
There are a total of seven members that regularly contribute to the “Benchmob” including the leaders and founders, Coil and Jacobus.
“I run the account and post videos, but a lot of the ideas are from Jack. Other people in the videos are Brayden Schram, Breyer Menke, Max Johnson, Justin Musgrave and Colby Feezell,” Jacobus Said.
The group’s major goal is to become well known by the state basketball tournament. We asked the group whether or not they will keep making Tik Toks after his season.
“Sadly, probably not. We may post every once in a while, but it won’t be the same without Jack coming up with ideas for Tik Toks,” Jacobus said.
The meaning behind their name also has an underlying meaning.
“Benchmob just means we are pretty crazy, we love helping out teammates out with calls, but our bench celebrations are our favorites,” Coil said.
The three members interviewed all stated that they have a good time being around each other and making the videos.
“It is just a fun way for us to bond together after practices,” Musgrave said.
With many new ideas coming down the pipe from both Jacobus and Coil they wanted us to tell you to “Follow us on Tik Tok, @hhsbenchmob5”.
