Brace Face, Tinsel Teeth, these are some of the words that a teenager with braces might hear while having braces. Some of us can’t wait to get our braces on and show everyone that we are mature and cool. Until we have to go in for the routine tightenings and long hours in the dentist office, we soon regret ever wanting braces. Then, when the day comes to get them off, we can’t wait. Some kids have braces for only just a few months, some for years.
Senior Taylor Kidwell is one of the many teenages that has had braces. She had them for a year and seven months. That means a year and seven months of going in every three weeks and having them tightened, not being able to eat certain food, and not wanting to smile.
“I dreaded going into the dentist to have them tightened because then that meant that I wasn’t going to be able to eat hard food for the next three or four days,” Kidwell said.
“I love to smile now.” Kidwell said
Sophomore Emma Reddinger had her braces put on her 5th grade year and got them taken off as a sixth grader, but as a result of not taking care of her teeth after having them off she had to have them put back on her freshman year.
“I Ioved having them taken off because I finally didn’t look like a kindergartner,” Reddinger Said.
“I hated not being able to eat all the foods that I wanted to,” Reddinger said
I myself experienced having braces and doing the routine checkups and not being able to eat an apple whole. I had my braces for a little over three years. It was terrible and when the time came to take them off I couldn’t have been more thrilled. So all those Brace Faces out there, I swear it gets better and they do come off even though it seems they won’t.
