The Hastings High girl’s golf team sent two players to the state meet this season. Previously, the team placed 4th at districts this year. Junior Anna Brant and senior Leah Krings both competed in their first state golf competition last week.
Krings has been playing golf for about two and a half years, she started during the beginning of the COVID pandemic. She played on the high school team her junior and senior year.
“It felt really rewarding to make it to state my senior year!” Krings said.
Krings had a great season as she was constantly improving. Tying for 45th place at state, she earned a personal record on eighteen holes of 97 putts.
“It could’ve always gone better I would say, but I’ve always worked my hardest!” Krings said.
Krings favorite part about being on the golf team was the friendships she made. While she doesn’t plan to continue playing in college, she will play golf as a hobby for the rest of her life.
Brant has been playing golf for most of her life. However, she started playing seriously her freshman year when she had the opportunity to play varsity golf.
This year was her first year making it to state, however, she missed the point cutoff for qualifying by one last year.
Brant also improved immensely in her third season of golf, refining her personal record at the end of the season.
“I’d say that my season went decently well, I got a personal record of 85 which is pretty good,” Brant said.
Brant tied for 18th place at state this season.
“My favorite part was golfing the whole day when we had meets and making new friends,” Brant said.
