Not very often does the city of Hastings have a hailstorm in October. That is not the case this year, as Wednesday we had a hailstorm at approximately 8:30 that carried on through most of the night. Now the sports people are feeling the effects of the wet playing fields.
The cross country team has already had a postponement of their meet at York.
“I feel bad because some people’s last race was [Thursday] and now with the postponement some kids lost their last meet,” senior runner Tonny Nguyen said.
The good thing for Nguyen is the fact that this is not last game and he plans on using the postponement as a good practice.
“It depends on what the coach does in practice. I could treat this practice as if it were a meet,” Nguyen said.
Softball also felt the effect in Thursday’s game versus Lexington. The Smith Softball Complex has seven different fields that the Lady Tigers can potentially use if one field is in poor quality.
“The fields are very good. They are made to soak up the water,”junior Zoey Cook said. “The outfield might be muddy though.”
Football should not feel the effect of the storm though, but might feel the effect of the cold weather. The high for Friday was in the upper 50’s and it is just going to be worse than it is later in the night. The Tigers played Schuyler (0-5) at Lloyd Wilson Field Friday.
