LINCOLN, Neb. — According to reports by the Omaha World-Herald, the Grand Island Independent, and prep reporter Stu Pospisil, only immediate family members will be allowed to spectate at the NSAA Boys’ Basketball State Championships, set to take place March 12, 13, and 14. The games are all still on track to be played. This unprecedented decision has been made due to recent outbreaks across Nebraska of the COVID-19 virus. A student from Crofton High School who attended the Girls’ tournament last weekend recently tested positive for the virus. Only immediate family members will be allowed into the arena, but the enforcement of this rule remains in question.
This decision could not come on a worse year for Tiger basketball fans, who would have had a chance to see Hastings compete in the tournament for the first time since 2004. Hastings has compiled a 21-3 record across the season, good for the third seed in the tournament. Hastings is set to face Omaha Roncalli Catholic at 8:45pm on Thursday, March 12.
