When I think of quizzes, I usually think of BOP’s magazine quizzes, but quiz bowl, on the other hand, is something of much bigger importance. Quiz bowl is a club at HHS open to the students to compete against other schools at tournaments to test the students’ knowledge on questions from any type of category. In order to answer the question, you have to be the first person on your team to hit the buzzer before your opponents do.
HHS librarian Faye Friesen is the quiz bowl sponsor and has a passion for it.
. “Here’s the thing about quiz bowl: it is so entertaining to me. These kids are so entertaining to me that I just enjoy it so much. The kids are so smart,” Friesen said.
Friesen is very proud of the team and the dedication they have to the club, especially when the students are involved in other activities.
“We are very successful. We got second at state last year,” Friesen said.
Quiz bowl has been practicing on tuesdays and thursdays after school since the middle of October.
Senior Maggie Nielsen has enjoyed her time with the team. She was on the team that placed second last year. Since she is a senior, she is sad that this is her last year, but she wants to end on a high note.
