Attention all aspiring bakers and taste testers, the Hastings public library is hosting a cookie cook-off on Feb. 27 at the community center.
Participants are expected to bake 30 cookies from scratch and to then bring them to be judged. Taste tester positions are open to anyone in the community and require a small fee of $1, and baker positions are only open to teens. The library defines teen as anyone in the grades 6-12.
Bakers can enter as an individual or as a team. There will not be any limit to the size of teams, but if you’re planning on entering a huge team you may want to take something into consideration.
“Teams are fine, but there is only one prize. So if you have like seven people on your team you’re going to have to split that prize seven ways,” Hastings librarian Erica Rogers said.
The prize for this contest is several coupons and certificates from businesses around town, such as Eileen’s Cookies.
This is certainly not the first time the library has hosted activities like this for teens.
“In general I try to put together big activities like this every two or three months. In the past we have done a cupcake wars, capture the flag, project duct tape, and a makeup contest,” Rogers said.
In the past all events sponsored by the library have also been held at the library, but this will be changing.
“The community center by the skatepark will be the event center for all teen programs and summer reading for the next year and a half, so in a way this is our kick off event,” Rogers said.
