Hastings Senior High School seniors have 30 days until they walk the stage.
“It is definitely a weird feeling. I’m excited to finally be done with high school after four years, but I’m also kind of sad that I’m not going to be coming back next year, seeing my friends, and doing activities I’ve been involved in,” senior Shayli Shoemaker said.
Coming into high school as a freshman can be nerve-racking, but by the time students are seniors, they’ve adapted to change and have come out of their comfort zone.
“A lot has changed for sure. I was quiet freshman year and sophomore year as well, and eventually I just broke out of that shell and now I am more open-minded and carefree,” senior Ray Riley said.
As the common saying goes, High School is where you find yourself, and along with finding yourself you also find new friendships.
“I will miss the environment. Here, I’ve made so many wonderful friends and connected with so many people that I’ve become so comfortable being around.”, Shayli Shoemaker said.
Graduating can make some students worried about what to do next; however, for some students, it is quite the opposite.
“I’m excited about going off and figuring things out on my own. Graduating high school and going to college gives me a lot of freedom to pursue things I’ve never been able to do before,” Shoemaker said.
For Riley, this could not be more true, and he is excited to pursue one of his passions after high school.
“Competing in a powerlifting meet as well as all the other sports I did (are some of my favorite things I did in high school). Now I’m proud to say I’m a boxer and plan to go far in that sport,” Riley said.
All good things must come to an end, and the same applies to high school. As the Class of 2024, students will soon become graduates of Hastings Senior High School.
“Nothing lasts forever. If things go bad or even good it won’t last for the rest of your life,” Shoemaker said. “Take things day by day and live in the moment because nothing lasts forever.”
