With packed daily schedules for both parents and teenagers it is hard to manage driving around the town to pick up and drop off. So it’s once again the time of the year when most students look forward to take the driving test and earn a license. But many students make the silliest mistakes just because they have not sufficiently prepared or are just too nervous. REMEMBER! DMV wants you to pass the test. They have nothing against you.
Here are some tips you may find handy when you take the test:
1)Prepare for the written test- its not that hard!
• Read the driver test manual, learn the basic road rules and understand the various road signs. While you are driving, quiz yourself about the rules you are following as you drive.
2)Road test:
• Practice: Join Drivers Ed classes and practice. Or just ask your parents or an older sibling to help you. But be sure to practice. Don’t just show up unprepared or lacking confidence.
• Go downtown: DMV Hastings is located near downtown. Practice driving around the one-way streets and familiarize yourself with the routes. Look for signboards and markings. You could even finish your driving practice by sharing a bite at Eileen’s Cookies, while you perfect your angle-parking!!
• Make sure your car is ready: do not take a deflated, smoke belching or tattered car to the test. You don’t want to fail because your car isn’t road-worthy! Clean the car, adjust the seats and mirrors, and check the lights and wipers.
• Stay calm and confident: listen carefully to the instructor. Look out for signs. Stop wherever and whenever appropriate or necessary.  Use signals when turning. Use your rearview and side-view mirrors. Drive at or below the speed limits. And be sure you know the speed limits, even if they are not posted. Keep eyes off the hot guy or girl in the other car or on the sidewalk!!
• Practice your parallel parking as often as you can, this will impress your examiner! Remember the small details do matter a lot!
3)Examiner:
• Thank the examiner and be polite. Set a good impression if you think you might appear for a re-test (who knows you might also get the same instructor!).
