In the world we live in today, it is essential we keep up with all the new technology. That is why Hastings Public Schools made a decision to purchase a drone. With the addition of the drone, HPS will be able to capture different angles of sporting events and activities.
Faye Friesen, Hastings High School’s librarian, describes the search for the drone as looking for something “cutting edge.”
Four Hastings High students have been given the privilege to fly and operate the drone. Those students include Cooper Beahm, Jayden Hillis, Collin Lewis, and Taylor Quig. For now, drone operating is limited to these four.
Some students believe this changes other people’s view of Hastings High.
Hil“It gives the school a new look as a more tech inclusive school and it brings a more hip vibe,” Senior Collin Lewis said. Lewis is the primary drone pilot.
Others bring up opportunities we now have to use the drone for documenting school activities.
“ It will give us more of a chance to get different pictures or videos for sports or events that the school does,” Sophomore Taylor Quig states. “This will also give us different angles for events and/or games.”
The drone is planned to be used for district wide events and activities. Friesen and Trent Kelly are looking towards using the drone to do fly over shots of the elementary schools during construction. Friesen also talks about using it for sporting events and band practices.
As for now, their focus is practice.
