Entering the school parking lot I sometimes notice that all the parking spots closest to the school entrances are all taken up, and I also notice that half of those cars do not have the FMP parking permit. If one those cars belongs to you then you should probably move your car to the other side of the parking lot.
Before the school year even begins, all students that are active mentors in the Freshman Mentoring Program are given the privilege to get front parking. With that being said only FMP mentors should be parked in the spots that have an orange triangle on them. Because of this FMP parking is pretty darn useless.
First of all, the parking is granted to me by administration and they even gave me a permit to prove that my vehicle should be parked up front. I should not have to come back ten minutes before the end of my lunch period so I could get the parking spot I earned as a mentor. Which leads to my other issue.
Since we are given FMP parking, administrators should do their best to make sure that only mentors are parking in those spots. If they want to keep giving mentors this privilege, there should be someone monitoring and ticketing the students that should not be parked there. Â On the other hand students who decide to take up those spots do not even really seem to care or fear that they might get in trouble for parking there.
Students are ticketed all the time for parking in teachers’ spots. The same should be done for FMP parking. It seems to me that the high school is not strict about this like they were the previous year.
Since it seems this issue is not a high priority, it might be best if the school did away with the privilege and found another way to compensate the mentors. It would not cost anything and it would not really change anything to the school.
In fact it would probably reduce the stereotypes that students create in their heads about some of the students here at HHS, such as only the popular kids getting better treatment. And those people might just be right.
What is the purpose of FMP parking? What is it suppose to do? It is just a parking lot and nothing more.It would be just okay if we all just got a parking permit and then park where we desire.
