Adjusting to a new school can be a very hard long process. However, the freshmen class at Hastings High seem to be assimilating quite well.
“So far, [My high school experience has] been pretty welcoming and really fun, and I’ve met a lot of cool people who are really nice,” freshman Miranda Vizoso said.
Diversely, another freshman, Emma Kvetensky said that her experience at the high school so far has been chaotic because everything she is involved in fills up her time.
“Just between honors [classes], band, and orchestra, it’s a lot of work, especially transitioning from a middle school that babies you, and then it’s like being in a jungle,” Kvetensky said.
The students also shared positive factors they’ve encountered at the high school as they have adjusted to it.
Vizoso Marino believed that the high school’s discipline system was efficient, because “you have chances to correct your [behavior].”
Some students like the high school’s block class schedule, where students only have half of their classes the first day and the second half the next day.
“I enjoy the block schedule because if you have a test in your class, you have at least a day to study and prepare,” freshman Trevor Campbell said.
Most freshmen agree that there are sparse disadvantages in high school, although some can observe a few.
“I really like everything about the high school, except people are a tiny bit rude, but you can’t control that,” Kvetensky said.
Lastly, a few of the students gave advice for next year’s incoming freshman.
“Don’t overthink anything… it always goes better than expected,” Kvetensky said.
