Lately, news stations have had to cover some stories that are hard to hear: Trump’s impeachment, the Coronavirus, climate change, and Kobe Bryant’s death to name a few. While all of these things are important to stay up to date on, It helps to focus on some positive news for the week.
This first story was particularly interesting because it says that life expectancy has risen since 2014. The reason for this is because the deaths from drug overdose have fallen, so the life expectancy has gone from 78.6 years to 78.7. This may only be an improvement of .1 years, but that .1 is equivalent to 3000 fewer deaths. This is also a monumental moment because it is the first time that drug overdose rates have fallen since 2014.

Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze started “4ocean” just three years ago and have already pulled 8 million pounds of plastic from the ocean. They do this by selling 20 dollar bracelets made of the plastic they find in the ocean. Cleanup efforts work with “4ocean” to remove the almost 10 million pounds of plastic floating just around central America’s coastlines.
