Hastings High has had many teachers come and go, but one that’s dear to its “Hart” is leaving. Yvette Hart has been teaching for 19 years, all at Hastings High. Without a doubt, many memories came out of those 19 years.
“I have countless great memories. If I look at them, the common thread is woven around my students and their personal successes. There is nothing more satisfying than watching a student finally understand an idea after struggling. Those ‘aha’ moments are priceless,” Hart said.
Hart has helped countless students reach those “aha” moments as one of Hastings High’s chemistry and physical science teachers.
Hart went to high school with 500 students in her graduating class in Denver, Colorado and then came to Hastings to go to college.
“I started college at Hastings College in 1970. After two years at HC, I was accepted into dental school. I completed one year and then was a stay-at-home mom for 25 years. When my children were grown and in college themselves, I went back to Hastings College and graduated in 1999. I completed a Master’s program from Montana State in Bozeman when I was 60,” Hart said.
Hart taught calligraphy for CCC but was still in the Hastings High building. At one point in Hart’s career, she taught calligraphy classes at Central Community College. However, Hart has only taught in the Hastings Senior High building.
“I have only officially taught at Hastings High. Before I taught science, I did teach calligraphy for Hastings CCC but those classes were in the HHS building.”
Hart is looking forward to spending time with family and her grandchildren and helping out with volunteer work.
“I am looking forward to being able to spend more time with my twelve grandchildren. There are several hobbies I hope to attempt and be able to complete. I also see some time opening up to do some volunteer work,” Hart said.
The “Hart” of Hastings High will definitely be missed.
