As the Tigers ran through the poster marking the beginning of the game, the starting line up was fired up and ready to go. Then in the first quarter, senior Beau Dreher scored the first touchdown of the season. Beau Dreher scored again with pick six later that same quarter.
“We were really confident at half,” said Joe Rodriguez, “The sidelines energy was super loud and supportive all the way through.”
There were many transfer students from schools around Hastings High that came here to play football this year. Many of them were starters like Oaklyn Smith, Jeret Frerichs, and Connor Reichstein.
“For all of the new starters we had, the game went well,” said the head varsity football Coach Shoemaker, “It’s quite a big difference from playing class C to Class B, for the ones from Adams Central.”
After half-time, the opposing team took charge of the game and the energy faded at the stadium.
“Later in the game, the sidelines lost a bit of energy,” said Rodriguez, “We were still supportive all the way through.”
The Tigers fell short to the Lincoln NorthStar Gators The final score was 23-14.
“The game went okay,” said Coach Shoemaker, “We made a lot of mistakes and hopefully we can work to correct those in the next few weeks.”
The Tigers played McCook the following week. They lost the game 27-7. They play Scottsbluff this coming Friday.
“We played well but just were a little inexperienced,” said Rodriguez, “The game puts us in the spotlight.”
