Hastings High Chamber Choir was offered the experience to sing with the world renowned Dr. Mack Wilberg, director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, last week.
The members attended the UNK Choral Composer Symposium and sang four pieces under the influence of Dr. Mack Wilberg.
“We have a reputation of excellence, our students are great singers and Dr. Bauer from UNK wanted to include us in this experience,” Director of Choirs, Jon Marquez said.
Students thought of this opportunity as an honor.
“As vocal musicians we are thrilled to be able to sing with one of the most prestigious conductors in all of choral music,” junior Lillian Kingsley said.
“I was very excited to be directed by the director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir,” said sophomore Alexander Marousek.
Hastings High School was not the only school that participated. Lexington, Minden, and Kearney High schools also had the chance to sing with Wilberg.
Marquez said it was a great opportunity to sing under a famous conductor and sing with a Collegiate Choir.
It was at a college campus so the students also had the opportunity to visit UNK.
“If I were to consider college in Nebraska, then going on these choir trips to colleges could help me see how good their programs are,” Marousek said.
Both the students and the director were honored to be a part of this opportunity.
