Every high school has its own traditions when it comes to watching their football team play under the Friday night lights. Here are the eight biggest traditions at Hastings High.
1. Seniors always get the platform and the front few rows, juniors get the next few rows, sophomores get the following rows, and freshmen are towards that back. This is done out of respect for upperclassmen that have been at Hastings High longer.
2. Game themes are really important at Hastings High. You’ll rarely see anyone not doing the theme for that day. If you attend a football game, be sure to support your school by checking the theme and participating.
3. Before the game starts, there is always a run-through of the players followed by the Tigerettes dancing to “Eye of the Tiger”.
4. The first cheer of every game is called “Go Orange Go Black”. It goes: “Break it down / Jam with the Tigers / stand up / Yell go let’s fight / we are the what / the orange and black / break it down / stand up / go orange go black.”
5. Throughout the game the cheerleaders like doing crowd favorites like “Dynamite”. It goes: “Tigers are what / Dynamite / Tigers are what / Dynamite / Tigers are tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik BOOM dynamite.”
6. At half time during the homecoming game, the cheerleaders walk royalty out onto the football field as their names are announced.
7. Another fan favorite traditional cheer at Hastings High is called Tiger Power. It goes: “When we say tiger, you say power / Tiger / Power / Tiger / Power (Repeat)
8. The Battle Cry cheer is notoriously the oldest cheer at Hastings High and therefore a very big tradition. It’s essentially a battle between grades of who can chant the loudest. At the end, all of the classes say it at the same time. Here is how the cheer goes: “Tigers Tigers don’t be shy / stand and yell your battle cry / V-I-C-T-O-R-Y that’s our Freshman battle cry / V-I-C-T-O-R-Y that’s our Sophomore battle cry / V-I-C-T-O-R-Y that’s our Junior battle cry / V-I-C-T-O-R-Y that’s our Senior battle cry / V-I-C-T-O-R-Y that’s our Tiger battle cry.”
Come out and support the Tigers at the next home game!
