The punishments for vandalizing a school bathroom could be suspended from school or in school suspension. Another possible punishment could be getting charged with destruction of property.
The closing of the bathrooms was because of vandalism done by the students. Students took toilet paper dispensers off the walls, moved facets, bent a draining pipe, broke a window, wrote things on stalls, and took chunks of wet toilet paper and put them on the wall. Lots of students were also taking photos and videos and showing other peers.
“We started to shut down bathrooms and clean them up but then it’s like you know what if they’re gonna continue to act like this just going to shut it down and get everybody to go to one area,” head principal, Jeff Linden said.
Solutions to this problem are monitoring the bathrooms between classes and having other students report anything they notice vandalism. Also having the staff members at the school monitor the restrooms as well.
“We have the custodial staff and we will run sweeps periodically throughout the periods so we will chat to see if there’s anything we are able to get a better idea what time these things were happening and try to stop them or try to figure out who’s doing them,” Linden said.
The closing of the bathrooms affected everybody. Not only the students but also the teachers. Students had to walk farther to use the restroom making them miss class time. It may also make the students late and it’s inconvenient.
“It makes teachers mad and suspicious of us because of the time we have to take to walk all the way around the school and there is always a line and now passing periods aren’t enough time to go to the bathroom,” Madi Wenzl said
Students not putting into consideration who has to clean up the messes they made. The janitors had to clean it up. Making their jobs harder than they already are. Also the cost for repairs and the materials that were vandalized.
“I don’t think kids realize how much damage a little vandalism does. One, it makes a person wonder why the disrespect. Another, it creates more unnecessary work for me and my crew. It saddens me because I give so much respect and kindness and then I get disrespected like this. But all in all, I still love the kids the same,” janitors, Tom Frase said.
