The Hastings High Volleyball season is wrapping up very quickly. They finished their regular season games going 20-8. Hastings was seeded second in the conference tournament on Saturday, the 28th of October, in which they finished third in. The team is very optimistic for districts on Tuesday.
“I’m very excited for the end of regular season and the start of postseason. I feel confident that we can do very well and continue to defy the odds like we have all season,” says sophomore middle hitter Brooke Aspen.
The HHS volleyball teams have lost some games they shouldn’t have just by not playing as a team.
“Keys of winning these next games are being able to play as a team with a lot of trust in our teammates, communication, and having self confidence in our skills,” says Junior Middle hitter Kyla Rickert.
“The keys for winning for this team is love. We can’t get down. We have to work together and come out to play hard,” says freshman right side hitter and defensive specialist, Dacey Sealey.
The volleyball team has been working very hard at practice and trying to become better both individually and as a team.
“Since the beginning of the season we have been focusing on controllables like our attitudes, we also have been working hard in sharpening our fundamental skills.” says sophomore outside hitter Haley Schram.
“We have been focusing really hard on things we can control, such as talking as getting along also our team unity,” said sophomore libero Aubree Cress.
The team has been talking about trying to change the culture of volleyball at Hastings High.
“The culture has shifted dramatically. We have came out showing that when we work hard and together we have skill. The culture has started with us and we continue to push forward,” said Sealey.
The volleyball team’s goal is to make their first appearance at the state tournament since 2008 on November 9th, 10th and 11th.
