The HHS Improv Troupe has been in the slumps for the past few years with only a regular student attendance of about eight. This year is the end of that bad rutt with an average of about 20 students a week.
Drama Instructor, Katie Schultz says it due to a workshop that the troupe had at the middle school last year.
“The last few years we’ve probably had groups between eight and 12 that have been regular participants and last year we did a workshop at the middle school and because of that we’ve had almost 20 people come each week this year,” Schultz said.
Improv or otherwise known as, Improvisation is when a group of people put on a show on the fly without a script or planning before hand.
The Improv team puts on a number of shows in Hastings and at the school.
“In the past we have performed at pep rallies, we’ve also performed several times at the library and done workshops there. We have shows on campus,” Schultz said.
The team practices their Improv games once a week every Wednesday in Ms. Schultz’s room for an hour .
Improv Troupe Vice President, Joe Prickett says yes they make up the scenes as they go but it is more complicated than just that.
“We practice but it is acting on the fly and it is acting without a script but there are different kinds of ways that we have to make that happen, there are different technicalities to it,” Prickett said.
