Going into the postseason, the Hastings High girls basketball team has a record of 12-7. They are coached by Greg Mays who has held this title for 13 years.
The team has faced many challenges this season including facing teams like Grand Island Northwest, and Crete.
“We have had many challenges from the beginning. Our team is very young with only two seniors and both are kind of new to the program,” sophomore Mckinsey Long said.
The team played Monday at Grand Island Northwest. They lost to York 40-51.
“York is a very good team; they beat us earlier in the season pretty bad. We are a good team and definitely a good enough team to beat York. They lost to Adams Central, who we beat last week, in conference and that is a good boost for us,” junior Dacey Sealey said.
The Tigers have district finals on Saturday. They will know who they will play today at 10:30 p.m. today.
“I want to go to state and I think we could really have a shot if we come out and start to win these last few regular-season games to get in a good position to get into state,” senior Daleane Hinrichs said.
As the season has progressed, the Tigers have learned from their mistakes and bettered themselves.
“We are a really young team and as a coach I enjoy that because we can do a lot of different things,” Mays said.
