When COVID came to the United States in January, most people weren’t too concerned about it. Less than two months later, the virus arrived in Nebraska on March 10. Six days after the first confirmed case in Nebraska, school was called off for the remainder of the year.Â
Many people, including myself, would’ve never imagined that school would get called off in mid-March and we couldn’t come back until August: a five-month summer.
At this time last year, if you would’ve told me that a percentage of our student body is doing only online-schooling and that in-person students have to wear a mask at all times, I wouldn’t have believed you.Â
The virus has changed everyone’s lives in a different way. For example, I would’ve never thought my junior year of high school would include wearing a mask every day, during a pandemic. It never crossed my mind that I’d miss the third and fourth weeks of school because I was in quarantine.
However, here we are. As of September, there are many guidelines for in-person school. At HHS specifically, some of these measures include wearing a mask or a face covering at all times and a required temperature check for every student at the beginning of each class.
This has been and will continue to be an interesting school year and chapter of our lives, and one that we will never forget.
