Many students at Hastings High probably wonder how well their school is actually preparing them for college. The Tiger Cub staff interviewed two Tiger Alumni, Hope Kometcher and Anna Cafferty, who are now freshmen at Hastings College, and asked them about their experience.Â
“I feel that high school prepared me really well for college, although high school is much different than college,” Cafferty said.Â
Cafferty accredits much of this to the dual credit and honors classes she took.Â
“The classes that helped me the most would probably be World Lit, Calculus, and Physics because I had to really do my work and study in those classes,” Cafferty said.Â
One thing that students may find interesting is that with the help of dual credit classes, you can actually get some harder college classes out of the way.
“Right now I find college easier mostly because I took many of the hard freshman-level classes as dual credit classes in high school, so I am ahead of the curve,” Cafferty said.Â
However, a big part of college is the transition to adulthood and managing your own schedule.Â
“College is harder just because here nobody is telling you to do your homework so you have to be self-disciplined. Also, I’m playing basketball so I’m trying to find time to balance both,” Kohmetscher said.
One might wonder what college classes themselves are like compared to those at Hastings High.
“College goes more in-depth in classes but high school gave me some good background knowledge that I needed to know beforehand,” Kohmetscher said.
Overall, it is safe to say that our high school is doing well in preparing seniors for higher levels of education.
