Sleep. Eat. Write. This is the average day of a student in high school, particularly a student with passing grades. You may think that school work is not the most important thing to do, but you are wrong because it is very important. Well at least if you are still in high school. But do not worry if you are struggling to keep those grades up because I happened to pick up some tips over the past three years of how to pass a class that I hope can be helpful to you if you are failing.
Step one. Showing up to class. Yes it may sound silly, but there are a few students out there that do not come to their classes. So just showing up to class may increase the chance of passing a class. You cannot eat a cake without making it first. And if you have not noticed yet, teachers still take attendance. So no matter what ludicrous thought gave you the idea to ditch class, you will be punished for it. Showing up to class gives you an idea of what class you are in and an idea of what you need to do.
Step two. Being on time. This step may sound similar to the previous step, but it is a very important step that is often overlooked. Showing up to class is one thing, but being there on time is what gives you a connection with your teacher. Being tardy can possibly make your teacher despise you. It also tells the teacher exactly what kind of student you are. If you happen to be on time, your teacher will be able to see potential in you and see that you are willing to work hard in class. However, if you walk into class whenever you feel like will show the teacher that you do not care about the class. Nothing irritates a teacher more than a student walking into class late, especially if they are in the middle of teaching. So do not spend time talking to your friends in the hallway during passing time, go straight to class.
Step three. Being prepared. Having the proper essentials for class is the way to show that you are ready to learn. I find it ridiculous when some students walk into class without even a pencil with them. But what do I mean by “proper essentials?” To clarify, you should have a writing utensil, writing material, any homework that is due, and possibly a book to read incase you have finished all your work early. It is always important to be prepared for class because you never know what to expect when you walk into that classroom. So if you are prepared for class, that already provides you a twenty-five percent chance of passing your class.
Step four. Listening. Spacing off and talking to your classmates will not help you pass a class. You will have a better chance of passing if you actually pay attention to the lecture. If you pay attention you will begin to understand the lessons and be able to do well on your work over the lesson. Also teachers do not like to waste their time to stop their lesson and try to get you to listen and focus on the lesson. Just as long you sit quietly and put all your attention to the teacher, you should be able to see your grade go up.
Step five. The final step in passing a class is making sure you get all your work completed on time. Even though most teachers will allow you to turn in your work late, it is better to get your work done on time. Otherwise it will most likely not get done if you put it off. Homework is practice. So the more homework you do, the better you understand what you are doing. And it is always nice to have homework to study from right before a test. Finishing work on time will also give you the satisfaction of feeling accomplishment. To sum up, you cannot pass a class if you do not do the work for it.
As you can see, passing a class is very important in high school. It determines what kind of person you are. Colleges will think very highly of you and see a lot of potential if they see that you are doing well in high school. In conclusion, if you are failing please take these steps under consideration.
