With most sports this year somehow changing, it’s clear that wrestling will be no different. Junior Jett Samuelson has been wrestling for the better part of 6 years, saying that he and his team are still finding ways to make the best out of their season, and enjoy the sport.
“The thing I enjoy most about wrestling is the bond that forms with my teammates and how we become brothers,” Samuelson said.
Covid-19 has put a strain on these relationships forming, as the team has lost some meets and no longer have overnight trips to schools across the state.
“We do not wrestle with masks, however we do weigh in with masks. Though no apparent spike has been shown in response to the lack of masks during wrestling, some are still doubtful.
The NSAA has not been allowing spectators to come to many events this year, wrestling included. This change is hoping to ensure that Covid-19 spread stays to a minimum.
“The removal of fans from events has definitely been my least favorite part about wrestling this year. It looks like with the regulations the NSAA is enforcing that we will be able to continue our season,” Samuelson said.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances this season Samuelson and the team are still motivated and ready to compete.
