Intramural volleyball is a recreational way to play volleyball for both boys and girls within the walls of Hastings High taking place during the spring sports season.
For many in-season volleyball teams, the main purpose is to win, but when you are playing for an intramural volleyball team, the main purpose is to have fun.
“The whole reason we have intramural volleyball is just for kids to be able to play volleyball and have a good time,” said English Learner teacher, Denise Teetor.
Teetor, one of the main organizers of intramural volleyball, finds that the best part indeed is seeing the people have fun while playing the game of volleyball. She feels that of all the years she has organized intramural volleyball, this year’s teams really came out and had fun.
“Seeing kids have fun was really the best part and I really do think that teams came in this year and had a good time some of the teams would dress up alike, some dress up crazy and that was really great to see,” said Teetor.
If you feel you would like to be involved in intramural volleyball come the next school year, keep an eye out for a bulletin next year telling you that it will be starting soon and start to gather a team.
“We put out a bulletin saying intramural volleyball will be starting so get a team together consisting of anyone within the high school, put the names down and turn it into whoever is running it and if kids do not have teams and want to play they will find them a team,” said Teetor.
For anyone that is hesitant, you have plenty of time before the next season starts, but you should consider trying it out. If you don’t end up liking it, you are never tied down.
“Intramural volleyball is just a fun time and I would really encourage anyone that would like to play to get a team together and come and have fun we don’t have a ton of rules we try to go by the volleyball rules, but because it is co-ed I think it makes it more fun. It seems that the team that has the most volleyball players is not the team that usually wins, it is usually the team that has some crazy boys on it,” said Teetor.
But as all things have to come to an end, Teetor will not be returning to the next season after teaching at Hastings High for a total of 39 years and organizing intramural volleyball for 12 of those years. She will be moving happily into retirement come the next school year.
“Who is going to take over is really the million dollar question,” said Teetor.
