I’m starting to put the pieces together.
So, you know how the world is apparently supposed to end on Friday, December 21? Everyone’s talking about it. Coincidentally, there’s another Friday people have thoroughly discussed- Rebecca Black’s “Friday”. I noticed the similarity between these two occurrences, and I came to the incriminating conclusion that Rebecca Black may indeed be a modern-day Nostradamus.
I’ll start by showing you the lyrics.
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Rebecca warns us of the impending apocalypse by telling us that time is running out. She needs to get to the bus stop to take the fastest way out of the major cities.

Seriously, listen to those lyrics. Definitely related.
Even more condemning is the chorus.
It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend
Everyone needs to get down into the bunkers for safety. We’re looking forward to the weekend because hopefully we’ll survive the apocalypse.
The chorus is repeated four times throughout the song. Guess which week of December the 21st falls on? The fourth.
…Drivin’ on the highway
Cruisin’ so fast, I want time to fly
Fun, fun, think about fun
You know what it is
I got this, you got this
My friend is by my right, ay
I got this, you got this
Now you know it
Rebecca is on her way out of town on the bus, wishing they could be out of harm’s way alright. She’s thinking about the fun times she’s had while her friend huddles by her side in fear, as Rebecca whispers encouraging words to her, “We got this. We’re going to be okay.”
Yesterday was Thursday
Today it is Friday
…Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after … wards
I don’t want this weekend to end
Rebecca’s worldview is shaken as she ponders which order the coming days will proceed in. She knows that the previous day was Thursday, and it is currently Friday, but anything else is an enigma. The weekend is all she has to look forward to. Nothing beyond that is certain.
Next, the illest rapper in the West Side, Patrice Wilson drops a haunting verse.
Fast lanes, switchin’ lanes
Wit’ a car up on my side (Woo!)
(C’mon) Passin’ by is a school bus in front of me
Makes tick tock, tick tock, wanna scream
Check my time, it’s Friday, it’s a weekend

Patrice rushes out of the populated areas, racing all manner of other vehicles, including a school bus full of helpless children. Shame on you, Patrice.
Rebecca then goes on to repeat the chorus multiple times, showing her urgency to spread the message. And spread it she did. Her video became one of the most popular of all time, yet also the most disliked video in the history of YouTube. We ridiculed her.
We were warned and we literally laughed it off.
Heed her warning, friends. Flee while you can. Get down on Friday.
