My reaction was the same as everyone’s when I was told to join the school newspaper as a sophomore. “No way! That is way too much work.” But luckily for me, Emma Mays convinced me to do it, and I’m so happy that she did. There are many reasons why and how newspaper has shaped me into who I am today. The most important one though, is I learned how to be a leader by taking and giving criticism.
This year I am the website editor for the Tiger Cub and it has been amazing! I learned how to completely redesign a website while hanging out with some people that have become my really good friends in class. Yes, I still have to write a story once a month, but I’ve come to enjoy it! And let me say, it is nothing like the 7-page papers I have to write in World Literature.
I also get many opportunities to express myself in different ways, such as photography and short videos for the website! There are so many different things besides writing that you can do in Tiger Cub. So while yes, there is some work involved, Tiger Cub is a great opportunity to get involved in the school and meet some people that could become really good friends. I highly recommend it to anyone at all. Give it a shot because, like me, you might just be pleasantly surprised.
