Robyn Rihanna Fenty, also known as Rihanna, or Riri, who has not released any music since 2016 has just released a new song “Lift Me Up”.
The song was only released on October 28th, but it has been catching the attention of many and is ranked Number 1 on the “trending hot songs” chart, by Billboard within that first week of release.
Though having not released anything in a number of years, Rihanna’s fame didn’t decrease one bit. She gained even more by upstarting her own line of beauty products, Fenty Skin and Fenty Beauty which supplied her with much of the money she currently has. Her brands have raised her over 1.4 billion dollars, making her the youngest self-made billionaire woman in America.
Rihanna gained everyone’s attention by becoming an entrepreneur, and posting many pictures throughout the years she drifted from the music industry, of her in the studio making music. This was agonizing for some people, especially ones who had been waiting so long for her to release something, only for it to be a 99% chance she was just teasing.
When she was involved with the industry, her songs hit the charts one after another. She was a famous artist among others like Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj who were big from 2007-2016. She was involved in the R&B and pop scene, her most popular songs being from these genres.
Rihanna’s #1 song, “Love The Way You Lie” which is categorized under the “pop” genre, has more than 900 Million streams on Spotify alone. With Rihanna posting her music on many other platforms, the amount of streams on all of her music is definitely off the charts.
Being the youngest self-made woman billionaire in America is a big label for a person, and Rihanna makes sure to live out her full potential with it. Many people look up to Rihanna, and her releasing something new has sent everyone into a spiral of many different emotions.
“Lift me up” is an R&B song that reached over 6.9 Million streams within the first two days of release. The song is a reappearance, already being heard throughout theaters while playing the Black Panther movie. The song is made to be a tribute to the actor of THE black panther, Chadwick Boseman, who passed away.
Written by Tems, or Temilade Openiyi and then sung by Rihanna, this song moved the hearts of many. Tems is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer who has featured on many popular musicians like Drake, Wizkid, and Justin Beiber. These features essentially raised her to fame, including her cover of “No woman, No cry” by Bob Marley, which became part of the Black Panther soundtrack.
Tems expressed how she felt about “Lift Me Up” in the comment section of an Instagram post, “Blessed to have wrote this song in honor of Chadwick Boseman and even more blessed to hear the baddest @badgalriri voice it to perfection”.
The song is meant to portray the feeling of loss, and wanting to speak to those who have passed. It gives the feeling of wanting to embrace someone who is no longer here, but at the end, Rihanna reminds us that “We need love, We need a light” in order to get by while having a sort of feelings like those.
Rihanna is a person to look up to, by many people, her being a billionaire and a music artist makes her an inspiring person in the eyes of many. Through long-awaited years of wanting music, Riri has finally given the people what they wanted.
