Markus Miller is one of the first baseball players in Hastings Senior High history to Throw a perfect game and set a new record.
Miller has been playing baseball for 13 years. He has spent an enormous amount of time practicing and putting in the work to be better at baseball. Miller started off his baseball career at a young age because of an idol.
“I started playing baseball when I was around 5 years old and I started to play because I wanted to be like my older cousin,” Miller said.
Miller has spent most of his life playing baseball, including all of high school. During Miller’s time at HHS, he has been learning and preparing himself for graduating in 2022 where he will be going to Hastings College to play college baseball. Miller has undoubtedly had previous successes but a perfect game is his all time best. Although Miller hasn’t started playing college baseball yet, he already has goals set and in mind.
“I want to be remembered as a competitor, and someone who will work hard no matter the circumstances,” Miller said.
Miller is the first in HHS history to ever accomplish the goal that many players have dreamt of; throwing a perfect game. A perfect game is a complete game pitched without a runner reaching base either by hit, base-on-balls, or an error. Miller never expected to be in Tiger History like this but he mentions how it’s a special moment in his life for him. To break a record like he has, has never been done in HHS history. Miller had achieved a goal that no one else has been able to make. Miller’s first perfect game was also his last as a high schooler. Miller had the opportunity to experience a monumental moment not just for him but also others.
“It was pure joy, and happiness that I could do that on Duncan Field, especially my last time pitching in a Tiger Uniform at Duncan Field,” Miller said.
Getting to where Miller got was a step in a motivational direction for HHS. This moment inspired Miller to be exceptional as well as others. Playing in a sport like Miller means having a family. A team of players who get to know one another and become friends. A team that is influenced by a coach to do the best they can. Miller was pushed in the direction to succeed and he accomplished it with the help of practice and advice.
“Work hard and never take anything for granted, and always be willing to be coachable and help others. Always work hard no matter how bad it hurts, work your butt off,” Miller said.
