Charles Scribner. Many have not seen him or even heard the name before. Charles is the head coach of the swimmers for Hastings High swimming and diving team. Since he is not a teacher, he remains very aloof to the non swimmers of Hastings High.
Charles has a very extensive background of swimming. “I started swimming with HYAC when I was 5. I swam competitively for 17 years total. I swam for HHS 1996-2000, state champion in 1999 in the 200 free. I went on and swam for the University of South Dakota from 2000-2004. I made NCAA Division II Nationals in 2004.” Charles also holds multiple high school records, one in the 200 yard IM and another in the 1000 yard freestyle.
He was very excited to get involved in the sport of swimming again and help young swimmers achieve their goals. Some of his personal goals are to have individual state qualifiers and have relays qualify for state.
This year Charles was joined by his wife Whitney Scribner who is now the assistant coach. “ I think things will improve with coaching with Whitney. We have very similar swimming background and swimming philosophy. We work well as a team and splitting the responsibilities of coaching.” Says Charles.
Whitney was not around at the beginning of the season due to the birth of her and Charles’ first baby boy. This will not be effecting the season for the coaches anymore since Creighton does not make many appearances at practices or swim meets.
