Mrs. Friesen has been working as a librarian at Hastings High for 22 years. At Hastings High she is more than just a Librarian, she is a role model for many students.
“My entire life I wanted to be a librarian!” Friesen said.
Friesen has been a librarian for 27 years and the first five years before Hastings High she worked at Grand Island Public Library. After 27 years of hard work, she is retiring after this school year.
“The rumors of me retiring after this year are true!” Friesen said.
When she was a little kid she would make little cards and put them in books and then make her brother and sister check them out, against their will, because of her love for books.
“My brother and sister would never actually read the books they checked out, I would read them,” Friesen said.
Other than running the library she is also involved in many clubs. Some of the clubs that she runs are Future problem solvers, Quiz Bowl, and Books and Bagels.
“High school students are very entertaining!” Friesen said.
The juniors and seniors at HHS have the option for an open T3 and it takes place in the library. Everyday she walks around to make sure every student has their ID’s on, and just checks up on everyone.
“I enjoy talking with all the students and their enthusiasm and intelligence,” Friesen said.
Even though she is a librarian, she is qualified to teach English, but she has never been a classroom teacher.
“A vibrant, well-run library, and well used library is one thing that I hope Hastings High always has,” Friesen said.
Many of the English teachers at Hastings High like Mrs. Friesen because of the way she helps the students when they need to do research projects and need to find different types of sources. She also helps any student who just wants to find a good book to read.
“One thing I want to leave behind here is a fun and effective library. I want my successor to come into the school and enjoy Hastings High as much as I have!” Friesen said
