At the end of last year when Spotify released its yearly “Spotify Wrapped,” my top artist was Taylor Swift. Not only was my top artist Taylor Swift, but the majority of my top 100 top of the year were by her and I was also in the top 0.05% of her listeners.
Unfortunately, most of my friends are not huge Swifties like I am. Most people my age listen to rap music, not pop. However, I’ve always loved pop music. I was raised listening to either the pop or country station on the radio in the car with my family. Some of my favorite songs when I was younger included pop songs by artists One Direction, Katy Perry, Kesha, and Justin Bieber.
Since I’ve been in high school, my music taste has diversified pretty drastically every year.
My freshman year I found myself listening to mostly alternative pop music. I remember listening to a lot of Rex Orange County, Khalid, Christian French, and LANY. I also really enjoyed rap. I listened to artists like Juice WRLD, Lil Mosey, and Lil Skies.
However, my sophomore year I listened to country music most of the time. Some of my favorite artists were Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Riley Green, and Parker McCollum. I also started listening to some Christian worship music including songs by Jeremy Camp, Chris Tomlin, and Cory Asbury.
Now as a junior, I still listen to alternative pop, Christian worship, and country music, as I did my first half of high school. But now, my music taste has expanded even more. This year, I’ve found myself listening to a variety of pretty much any music you can think of. Some of my favorite artists right now are Justin Bieber, Toby Mac, The Kid Laroi, and of course Taylor Swift.
Clearly, my love for pop music has stayed strong throughout my life. Although I can’t go a day without listening to Taylor Swift, I’ve found other types of music I enjoy along the way.
