Junior Mylee Mick started a Bible study at Hastings Senior High this year.
After gaining permission and setting the plan in motion, several announcements were made encouraging people to join through Instagram, her church at North Shore Youth, and passing the word along to friends. The group meets every Wednesday after school in the Tiger Lounge for thirty to forty-five minutes to catch up and dive into the Word of God.

Mick has been involved with her faith for as long as she can remember. Her parents were involved in her church daily, exposing her early on to the Word. She went to North Shore every Sunday and volunteered at a kid’s ministry there. When Mick got to high school, she started getting more involved and serious about her faith, like joining North Shore Youth For Christ and doing other outreaches. As she spoke to a leader at Youth For Christ who inspired her to make a difference, she began thinking about what she could do.
“I wanna have this impact on people and my main goal is to introduce God to those who may not know him or recognize him and to save more people. It’s not about me or this club but it is all about him,” Mick said.
When the idea popped into Mick’s head, she had no idea how to start but knew her goal was to make an impact; she wanted to make an effort to start something new and bring a connection to the school through faith. Eventually, after a year, she put her plan into reality. She spoke to Linden late first semester to propose the idea of a Bible study; he told them they could meet after school on Wednesdays in the Tiger Lounge to make it more available for people in sports and other activities.
“I’ve been mostly just inviting a couple of people you don’t have to be a Christian you can just come and listen. I’ve spoken at my church about it. It was nice to speak on the stage and that was a big step. It was kind of scary but I think it kind of helped. I believe God will impact a lot of people,” Mick said.
The Christian group hasn’t become official due to low numbers and uncertainties with the school policy. Even with the hurdles, Mick stated that she would love to see more people grow big enough to be the size of a large club. She made an effort to start something new and bring a connection to the school through faith.
“It’s made me a lot more committed to diving into the world. Being a leader of a group has made me more resilient when diving into the word to start reading it studying it and encouraging others to do the same,” Mick said.
Mick stated that even though not many had attended, she hoped the group could be a place where people connect with the Word and dive deeper into their knowledge of Christ. Mick has struggled with the pushbacks and hardships of starting something new and different but has continued to stay confident and strong.
“I definitely had a lot of doubts and multiple times where I’m like is it worth it? Should I be going to all this trouble to do something that only four people have been going to?” Mick said, “But I feel like every big thing that God does-every big thing that comes always starts with a mustard seed of faith, and so I think taking this little step of faith in my life even though it might not seem significant, God can work in this school in miraculous ways, and I’ll be a light,”
Since starting the group, She has appreciated being in a place where one can talk about life, good or bad, and feel like a small family.
“I realized that the only person who can impact them is God. I can’t control what they think, but I can help them see what can happen.” Mick said, “There are so many instances where people get the wrong taste of Christianity, but I feel like if I can do my part to help people realize no specific thing we have to do or say giving our lives to Him.”
