It is out with old and in with new when it comes to the ACT. The guidance counselors will debut a whole new ACT prep instead of John Baylor. The new program is entitled Naviance. The reason for this sudden change is that students felt Jonh Baylor was not benefiting them.
“I do not believe that John Baylor was not as helpful as students say, but it was getting expensive,” Guidance Counselor Jalaene Choquette said.
Naviance works differently than John Baylor. The previous test prep had lessons that were provided once a week and every student was learning at the same pace. Naviance on the other hand works with the student on the section that they need more improvement on.
“Students first take a pretest and their results will determine where in the program they need to focus,” Choquette said.
The program will allow students to work at their own pace and on their own time. Because it is very easy to log in, students will be able to use the program on their own laptops. In other words, it will give them the opportunity to do the program right at home and on any day of the week.
However Naviance will not be provided this year for students to use. Teachers are still learning how to use the program, but it can be expected to be use at the beginning of next year.
“My goal is to have it on September of 2014,” Choquette said.
