New coach, new season, new team, Tiger football has begun! The tigers were 4-5 in the 2014 season. The expectations for this season aren’t about just wins. “My biggest expectation is that we play hard all the time, and that we are always competitive in whatever game we are in,” Head Coach Charlie Shoemaker said.
The season started off strong with a 25-14 win over the Gering Bulldogs.
“It was a good first game, it was a good opponent for us to have. We definitely have things to work on but, overall I thought the effort was good,“ Shoemaker said. “Vinny and our receiving core are going to be very crucial to us. Our captains Sam (Reimer), Michael (Collicott), and Josh (Dycus) have really done a nice job.”
Shoemaker thinks these three captains are going to have a large impact in future games.
Friday night yet again nears, and senior Bryant Menke is looking forward to taking the field again against Scottsbluff.
“If we stay focused and execute on all parts of the game it is completely winnable,” he said.
Shoemaker knows the game will be a good challenge for the team.
“I think it’s going to be a competitive game, they’re definitely a good team. We need to make sure we play flawless football and I think we have a chance,” Shoemaker said.
Last year’s line being all seniors makes way for some new talent.
“We really need everyone to step up and fill some key roles on the line,” junior Blayne Dreher said.
Menke feels inexperience won’t hold them back.
“Our line is a lot younger, but our skill positions are for the most part the same,”
The effort of the line will be key to winning the game. “We need to anchor down and give our position players a chance to make things happen,” senior lineman Emil Sommerfeld said.
The Tigers hope to keep continue their strong start, and continue to compete in every game they play.
