Every year, students at Hastings High pass by new flyers and club papers taped to every free surface in the halls. However, this year a new bulletin board was set up for clubs to put up all of their information. It’s located on the first floor next to the South Gym.
“I liked the idea of having a central location where students could go to find out about our clubs and activities, in hopes of getting more students involved,” Mrs. Douglas said.
Douglas first brought this idea to our school when visiting Kearney High.
“They [Kearney High] have a huge wall of clubs and activities right when you walk into their school,” Douglas said.
Some clubs, including science club, have already started gathering information for the board. Senior Angela Vu, a science club representative, thinks the board is a great idea for their club.
“The whole aspect of being able to design the board with flyers and pictures allows students to get a glimpse of what an activity is all about,” Vu said.
Senior Alyvia Krueger, president of Science Club, is especially excited about the new board because she feels it will clear up some misconceptions.
“Many students have the misconception that they have to be a genius to participate in science club when really science club is all about going on fun trips to learn about how science affects our everyday lives,” Krueger said.
Junior Carter Wenburg, Congress Debate advisor, plans on using the bulletin board to inform people about the debate team and what they do.
“We’re planning on putting a photo collage of the debate team going to debate tournaments and working on our cases,” Wenburg said.
Any students looking for a new club or activity to take on can stop by the board in passing periods or before or after school. You may just find yourself joining a fun club you’ve never heard of!
