As students return for their second semester of school they get back to their normal schedule of class, lunch, extra curricular activities. Everything is still the same, except for the lunch room. Lunchtime Solutions has revamped their lunchtime program.
Hastings Public Schools breakfast and lunch is provided by Lunchtime Solutions. This company provides healthy food options to students like unlimited fresh fruits and vegetables which are included with every student lunch on a self-serve food bar.
There is no longer a “Crusin’ Café” out in the hallway. Everything is inside the lunch room. The salad bar is still the same, offering varying fruits and vegetables, but there is no longer two long lines for the same food. There are now five different stations.
“I think the food is delicious and it’s convenient to have options to suit your taste each day. My favorite food though is the wings,” freshmen Kyla Rickert said.
There is a Homemade Pizza Station where students can pick a type of pizza like cheese, pepperoni, or even barbeque chicken pizza. A Sub Sandwich Station is available with a topping area. Students are free to choose what they want on their sandwich. This station will also include wraps and salads.
Everyone loves a good home style meal. Well, now there is a Home Style Station with casseroles, hot dishes, and other traditional lunch meals. A Grill Station is there for students to choose from. At this station there are cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and other ala carte items.
The last station is a rotating station. This station has something different each day. A potato bar with different toppings available, a wing bar with different sauces, hispanic and oriental foods, and a pasta bar with different types of pasta and sauce.
One thing that sticks out most from this change is the organization of the room. While there are no longer two long lines for the same food, there is now just a large mob of people crowded around different food stations.
“I think the system could be set up better so you don’t knock into people. It’s a little crowded now,” freshmen Hallie Murray said.
Lunchtime Solutions is also doing drawing in the lunchroom to entice people to try the new foods. Students can register to win an 8GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7 Tablet. 3 students will be chosen for each drawing. Even if you don’t frequent the lunchroom, you should stop by to try out the new food.
