
I’m sure you’ve wondered what Barack Obama and his family have been doing since his departure from Office on January 20, 2017. So let’s keep up with the Obamas.
I’m sure one of the first questions you had after Obama leaving office was: What’s next for the dogs? Well, the dogs, Bo and Sunny, continue to live with the Obama family in the Kalorama neighborhood of D.C. and have said they will stay there at least until Sasha graduates from high school.
Right before leaving office, he appeared in the first episode of David Letterman’s Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction on January 12.
A few months after leaving office, they sent their eldest daughter to Harvard University on August 22 2017.
Sasha’s beginning of her life out of the White House includes her first job as a cashier at a seafood restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard.
The Obamas love to travel, so right after leaving office, they traveled to many places: Palm Springs, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Oahu. He also went to Tetiaroa, a South Pacific island and started to write his White House memoir.
Even with all of his traveling, he still has time to manage the Obama Foundation and work regularly with his members.
In February of 2017, Michelle released her new book Be Vigilant But Not Afraid: The Farewell Speeches of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. This book had many heartwarming quotes and commentary about their famous speeches.
February 7, Barack and Michelle went kitesurfing in the virgin islands. Everybody likes to have fun, even the 44th president of the United States.
February 12, Barack and Michelle went to the unveiling of their portraits made by Kehinde Wiley at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. “I tried to negotiate less gray hair, smaller ears,” Obama joked at the unveiling. Times magazine said that: “Kehinde said that he backdrop includes flowers from Chicago, Kenya and Hawaii as a way of showing the president’s background.”
February 14, Michelle dedicates a whole Spotify playlist to show her love for Barack, titled ‘Forever Mine’ and tweets “Happy #ValentinesDay to my one and only, @BarackObama. To celebrate the occasion, I’m dedicating a little Valentine’s Day playlist to you! 💝” Of course, he retweeted that.
March 9, Barack and Michelle are talking to Netflix about making their own series of episodes highlighting inspirational stories. The New York Times reported that “President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,” Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president, told the Times. “Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”
March 14, Obama published his March Madness bracket
Obama tweeted, “Just because I have more time to watch games doesn’t mean my picks will be better, but here are my brackets this year.”
On April 4, 2017, Michelle Obama: A Photographic Journey by Antonia Felix was released, showcasing photographs of Michelle during her time in the White House.
Chasing Light: Michelle Obama Through the Lens of a White House Photographer by Amanda Lucidon was released on October 17, 2017.
On November 20, Barack wishes Biden a happy birthday…. Best bromance in the history of bromances.
November 13, 2018 is the release date of Michelle Obama’s new book, “Becoming.”
In 2021, Obama’s library will be built and located in Jackson Park on the South Side of Chicago and hosted by the University of Chicago.
