The Hastings High boys basketball team has their first home game against Seward tonight, November 29. The team is coached by Lance Creech.
The basketball team has been preparing by getting as much gym time as they can and watching film of their upcoming opponents.
“We practice 2.5 hours in a day, 30 minutes of film,” Creech said.
There are many players on the team that practice in the off-season, not only to better themselves, but to better the team.
“I do a lot of workouts, shooting and weights, a lot of mental prep too,” junior Connor Creech said.
For their first game, the basketball team’s focus is on themselves.
“We are pretty focused on us, not our opponents to start the season. We have to be sound in what we do and give our team the best chance we can to be successful,” Coach Creech said.
The winter season lasting from November to March is the longest sports season. This is a long time to continuously put in work to be successful.
“The hardest part is the grind of the season. It lasts until March and that can really take a toll on your body,” senior Alex Swoboda said.
Not only is the team wanting a win this Thursday against Seward, but they also want to prove that they have what it takes to win tough games this season
“I hope we can come away with the win and make a statement to the state that Hastings has a squad this year,” Swoboda said.
